Israel passes death penalty law for Palestinians

Far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has been a leading advocate for the execution of Palestinian prisoners. He welcomed the legislation, calling it “a historic day.”

US lawmaker calls Israel’s death penalty bill ‘next step in the genocide.’

US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib condemned an Israeli bill that would mandate the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, calling it “the next step in the genocide of Palestinians” and an act of apartheid.

“Mass execution by hanging, solely on racial lines” constitutes apartheid, Tlaib said on the US social media platform X, adding that Palestinians are “already systematically tortured in Israeli prisons.”

Israel has sharply escalated its violations against Palestinian detainees since the start of the war in October 2023, particularly those from Gaza, including starvation, torture, sexual violence, and systematic denial of medical care, according to rights groups.

Under the bill, a death sentence could be imposed without a prosecution request and by a simple majority rather than unanimously.

Military courts governing Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank would also be empowered to impose the penalty, with the defense minister granted the right to submit an opinion to the judicial panel.

For Palestinians under Israeli occupation sentenced to death, the bill would eliminate avenues for pardon or appeal, while those tried inside Israel could have the sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

MP Limor Son-Har Melec, who wrote the death penalty law exclusively for Palestinians, defended Israeli terrorist Amiram Ben-Uliel, calling him a “holy man,” for burning alive a Palestinian baby and his parents while they slept in their home in the occupied West Bank, while his accomplices chanted “Ali is on the grill.”

Europeans fail to realize the extent of the hatred and genocidal mania present in some sectors of Israeli society.

The Palestinian Hostages Club reported the death of detainee and wounded man Marwan Fathi Hussein Herzallah, 54, from Nablus, in Megiddo detention facility.

Herzallah had been arrested on January 8, 2026, and was still being held on charges that the occupation claims are related to incitement. He had previously been shot by Zionist forces in 1995, an injury that led to the amputation of one of his legs. He also has a son currently held under administrative detention in Zionist detention facilities.

This brings the number of detainees killed in Zionist detention facilities to more than one hundred since the start of the genocide, with the identities of 89 of them announced so far.
