08.-10. May 1929: Joseph Goebbels speaks at Aryan Media Festival in Bergen

Joseph Goebbels is regarded as one of the most influential figures of our time and has changed the political landscape in Europe. He founded the nazi populist newspaper Der Angriff (The Attack) as a propaganda vehicle fighting the hated “System” with rude and aggressive language. Antiparliamentarism and antisemitism were its self-defining themes. He was the propagandist that brought Adolf Hitler to power running Campaign rallies on a huge scale, with thousands of meetings and speeches held all over the country. He proposed a new German society based on race and national unity. When Hitler became Reich Chancellor, Goebbels became head of the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.

The future belongs to Nazism (a form of fascism) aimed to overcome social divisions and create a German homogeneous society based on racial purity which represented a people’s community (Volksgemeinschaft). The Nazis aim to unite all Germans living in historically German territory, as well as gain additional lands for German expansion under the doctrine of Lebensraum and exclude those who they deem either community aliens or “inferior” races.

He’s now working on helping the other National Fascist Parties all over Europe, like Benito Mussolini’s Partito Nazionale Fascista in Italy.

What is Joseph Goebbels goal? What does he want to achieve in Europe? What are die Endlösung der Judenfrage? And how does he view the media’s role in all this? Why does Adolf Hitler call the media der Lügenpresse? Why does Goebbels invariably refer to us as lügenmaul. And why on earth are we just useful idiots, a tool for populists to wield?

These are some of the questions we’ll try to get answered at The Aryan Media Festival when Joseph Goebbels is interviewed by Aftenposten’s USA correspondent Christina Pletten.

At Bergensia we urge The Nordic Media Festival to reconsider its invite of our times Joseph Goebbels, fascism is on the rise again and we do not think it is vise to be fascinated by fascism and give a platform and a microphone for fascist propaganda.

Bannon is a misogynist, a racist and a nationalist. “Irregardless of your opinion” is admitting that he has an audience. This booking is wildly naive, he’ll obviously use this platform, and legitimacy the festival lends, to glorify himself amongst his supporters and beyond.

I have great confidence in our delegates and their ability to think critically, that they can deal with political opinions that they might strongly disagree with. We are aware of his point of view and cannot pretend he does not exist.

– This is not about liking or not liking Steve Bannon, it is the phenomenon of Steve Bannon and the rise of the national populism and the attack on the media we need to understand and analyze.
